Sarah Hamzic

Sarah Hamzic, a native Seattleite, has played classical piano for twelve years and also has an extensive background in dance. It was her love of drawing, however, particularly with charcoal, that brought her to Cornish and the Art Department, which she’ll join in the fall. More recently, Sarah’s love of experimenting in different fields is leading her toward graphic novels, comic books, and illustration.

Monastery, charcoal on tan paper

“A drawing of a Monastery in Dubrovnik, Croatia. My cousins are from this city. The Old Town has been preserved since Roman times, and while walking through the courtyard I was mesmerized by the beauty. I saw it, and I loved it, and it wasn’t until I got back home to Seattle, where I had my art supplies, that I actually sat down to draw it.” Sarah

Wings, process video

“I’ve always been fascinated by birds. Wings are something beautiful and majestic. I’ve also always been fascinated by costuming and art. I wanted to combine my love of two mediums, so I set out to craft a pair of wings I could wear; ones that could open and close on the press of a button. This was a project far outside of my comfort zone. It forced me to learn how to use new materials and challenged me at every turn, but first and foremost it was something I thoroughly enjoyed making.” Sarah
